FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I become a Local 683 member?
First, you will need to work at a Union shop for thirty (30) days. You will have one (1) complete year from the first day worked to get in your thirty (30) days. For example, if your first day worked was January 1, 2005, you would have until January 1, 2006 to complete your thirty (30) days.
What do I do once I have completed my thirty (30) days?
Once you have completed your 30 (thirty) days, you will need to contact (1) your payroll company and have them verify your time worked with Contract Services Administrative Trust Fund, and (2) the Local 683 office in order to start your application processing. If you do not complete any paperwork required by CSATF, Local 683 will not be able to give the final authorization, and your time may be forfeited. In such an event, we (Local 683) will then send you a letter to set up an appointment asking you to join the union.
How much is it to join?
Currently, there are three initiation rates, broken down by your hourly wage:
- Rate “A” (More than $21.01/hour) = $1,925.00
- Rate “B” ($16.01/hr to $21.00/hr) = $1,125.00
- Rate “C” ($16.00/hour or less) = $875.00
This includes your initiation, registration, and processing fees.
(Union dues are not charged until after you pay initiation)
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept payments through Cash, Personal Check, Money Order, Cashiers Check, and VISA/MASTERCARD.
What is the first thing I should do when I get hired / laid off?
The very first thing you should do when you get laid off/hired is CALL THE UNION OFFICE. If you do not call in to report where you are, your name may not go out on the availability roster.
